Catechesis - 6th Commandment

P Today's catechetical reading is the Sixth Commandment. What is the Sixth Commandment?

C You shall not commit adultery. (K)

P What does this mean?

C We should fear and love God so that we lead a sexually pure and decent life in what we say and do, and husband and wife love and honor each other. (2)

P What passages of Holy Scripture inform us and convince us of this truth?

C Keep yourself pure. –1 Timothy 5:22 (1)

So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace…  –2 Timothy 2:22a (3)

What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.  –Matthew 19:6 (4)

Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. –Ephesians 4:29 (4)

Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price.
