P Today's catechetical reading is from the daily prayers - Returning Thanks after a Meal. How does Dr. Luther suggest praying after mealtime?

C Give thanks to the Lord for He is good.  His love endures forever. (K)

[He] gives food to every creature.  He provides food for the cattle and for the young ravens when they call.  His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor is His delight in the legs of a man; the Lord delights in those who fear Him, who put their hope in His unfailing love. (Ps. 136:1, 25; 147:9-11) (2)

P [Then shall be said the Lord’s Prayer and the following:]

C We thank You, Lord God, heavenly Father, for all Your benefits, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.  Amen. (1)

P What passages of Holy Scripture inform us in this regard?

C The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God. –Romans 14:6b (3)
