Mission Statement
The mission of Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Vandalia, Illinois
is to fulfill the Great Command of Jesus to "make disciples of all nations
(Matthew 28:19). To accomplish this task, Holy Cross has committed itself to
both outreach and inreach ministries. Holy Cross will reach out to others through
members sharing the Gospel and serving the Lord Jesus Christ with service to
the community wherever and whenever they are afforded the opportunity to do
so. Holy Cross will also provide opportunities to grow in faith through the
study of the word of God.
Our Confession of Faith
Believing that we are justified (declared "not guilty"
of sin) by the grace of God alone, through faith in Christ Jesus alone as Savior
and Lord, the members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church believe....
1) that the Holy Scriptures are the inspired and inerrant Word
of God (2 Timothy 3:14-16; 2 Peter 1:21).
2) that man was created in the image of God, but lost that image
in the fall into sin (Genesis 1:26-27; Geneses 3).
3) that Jesus of Nazareth is both True God and True Man, born
of the Virgin Mary, who came to this earth for the sole purpose of dying for
the sins of all men of all times and places (John 1:1-14; Colossians 2:9)
4) that Jesus rose from the dead the third day after His crucifixion
and, after His ascension into heaven, sent us the Holy Spirit as our Comforter
and Guide (Matthew 28:1-20; Mark 16:1-20; Luke 24:1-53; John 20-21; John 14:26;
Acts 2)
5) that Jesus will return to this earth again at the end of time
for the purpose of judging the earth and taking all His disciples bodily to
heaven (2 Peter 3:10; Revelation 1:7)
6) that our purpose as His disciples is to share the Gospel of
Jesus Christ with all people everywhere (Galatians 2:20; Matthew 28:18-20)
